GIRARD - Prayers will begin Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Rose Church for Joy A. Vanes, 56, who died unexpectedly Saturday morning.
Joy was born Feb. 26, 1957, in Youngstown, the daughter of Dr. John J. and Anne Finnerty Buckley.
She was a 1975 graduate of Ursuline High School and later graduated from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind. She was a substitute teacher for the Youngstown Schools and later worked as an office assistant for her brother, Dr. John J. Buckley IV. She was a member of St. Rose Church and the local St. Mary's Alumni club.
Joy loved to spend time with her family and especially enjoyed the many family vacations spent at Bethany Beach in Delaware and skiing trips to Peak 'n' Peak.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Vanes, whom she married Jan. 26, 1980; her father, Dr. John J. Buckley III; a daughter, Colleen A. Vanes of Liberty; two sons, Captain Daniel S. (Mindy) Vanes U.S.M.C. of Pensacola, Fla, and Michael R. Vanes, at home; two sisters, Colleen A. (Timothy) Glaab of Liberty and Mollie Buckley-Sekola and her husband, Philip Sekola of Vienna; and a brother, Dr. John J. (Margaret) Buckley IV of Liberty.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Anne Buckley.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Judge John J. and Rosalee Buckley Scholarship Fund at Ursuline High School in Joy's memory.
