“Together Again”
LOWELLVILLE – Prayers will begin Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Adam Joseph Kielb, 95, formerly of Briar Hill in Youngstown, who passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at Hospice House.
Adam was born June 16, 1923, in Campbell, the son of the late Joseph and Barbara (Reichart) Kielb, and graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1941.
Adam served in World War II and was honorably discharged as a Technician 5th Grade in the Signal Company of the 45th Division of the Army’s Thunderbirds. Adam’s job was to lay communication lines well ahead of advancing troops moving north from Anzio Beachhead through the mud of Italy then into France and Germany. After the fall of Munich, Adam’s Division got orders to free Dachau Concentration Camp. In total, Adam participated in five campaigns earning 5 bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 Silver Star, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany clasp, A Bronze Arrowhead and the French Croix de Guerre (Frances Medal of Valor).
He married Millie Labas on Aug. 9, 1949; they were married for 48 years until her passing on Dec. 5, 1997. They were members of St .Casimir Church. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving the rank of Grand Knight. He was also a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 87 and had served as president. Adam retired from Republic Steel in Youngstown in 1985 at the age of 62.
Adam is survived by his two daughters, Elaine Kielb Brian (Edward) of Lowellville, with whom he resided, Marcy Kielb Hamilton (Bill) of Poway, Calif.; and his grandson, Brent (Nicole) of San Diego.
Besides his parents and wife, Adam was preceded in death by his brother, John; and three sisters, Stella, Monica and Virginia.
Calling hours will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday.
