Agnes Hiznay

September 10, 1922 — July 19, 2013

POLAND CENTER - Prayers will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Agnes L. (McGarry) Hiznay, 90, who passed away peacefully on July 19, 2013, at her family residence, where she raised seven children, predominately on her own due to the accidental death of her husband, Jerome J. Hiznay Sr., in June of 1959.
She was born on Sept. 10, 1922, in Poland Center to Thomas A. McGarry Sr. and Mary Virginia (Shehy) McGarry.
Agnes graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1941.
Never was a person born with a more loving, caring, and compassionate heart than Agnes. Though she raised seven children and several grandchildren on her own, she never complained or asked for pity. She spent much of her life attending thousands of sporting events, cheering on her children and grandchildren. Without a doubt, Agnes was the greatest fan a family could ever ask for.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Kathryn Fullerman; brothers William Leonard, Joseph, Frederick, Robert and Thomas A. Jr.; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Warren; son-in-law Larry Kemp; and one great-grandchild, Susan Kemp.
Besides raising her family, Agnes worked as a beautician/manicurist at several salons, a factory worker for Kaiser Aluminum, and as a nurse's aide at St. Elizabeth's Health Center.
She leaves behind her children, Nancy Kemp, Jerome Jr. (Ann Marie), William, Mary Kathryn, Thomas and James (Mandie); 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Coitsville.
The family would like to specially thank Dr. Kathleen Padgitt and Hospice of the Valley, C-team.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
