BOARDMAN - Services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, with burial following at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown, for Mr. Albert A. Wolz, 87, who died Dec. 16, 2011, at the VA Clinic in Cleveland.
He was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Youngstown, a son of Albert M. and Jennie M. Clark Wolz.
Albert attended Poland schools prior to entering the U.S. Air Force during World War II. In 1943, while flying as a flight engineer on AB-24, which he had completed 34 combat missions was shot down over Germany in 1944. Albert was held as a Prisoner of War for 11 months and also survived the Black Death March. In the winter of 1945, he was liberated by the British and on May 2, 1945, returned to the United States.
On Dec. 3, 1945, he married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy Ansell and together they had three children, Marianne Richard Stein of Cincinnati, Ruth Wolz of Idaho and Dorothy Armand Jones of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Thomas Lealand and Michael Stanish; one great-granddaughter, Joanna Jones; and two sisters, Dorothy Joseph Rusnak of Akron and Edith Ed Nalepa of Bonita Springs, Fla.
Albert worked 40 years prior to his retirement, as a construction electrician out of LU No. 64 IBEW. He was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and was an usher at the church. His hobbies were hunting, shooting, fishing, boating and he enjoyed antique cars and auto racing.
Friends may call Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. till the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley in memory of Albert.
