Alfred Martell, Jr

December 16, 1924 — February 21, 2004

AUSTINTOWN-Services will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Alfred G. "Junior" Martell, Jr., 79 of Fredrick Street, Austintown, who passed away peacefully with his loved ones at his side Saturday morning at his home after a two month illness with cancer. Al was born December 16, 1924, in Thomas Mills, Pa., the son of Alfred and Katherine Speicher Martell. He had worked for General Motors for over 30 years as a skilled tradesman, retiring from the GM Lordstown Plant in 1990. He was a WW II Army veteran earning his wings as a demonstration parachute jumper with the Fransicas Flying Circus, a division of the Army that promoted the sale of War Bonds and recruited others to enlist. He then served overseas with the Army patrolling in the Philippines and in Japan. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Sharon, Pa., the Youngstown Post of the VFW, and the UAW Local # 1112. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, Gardening, football, and most of all spending time with his family, he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and taking them fishing.
He is survived by his wife the former Pearl L. Beard whom he married August 27, 1944, four daughters, Patricia Martell of Austintown, Jane Danny Powell of Lodi, Oh., Connie Herb Campfield of Burbank, Oh., and Cindy Dan Hale of North Jackson, Oh., three sons Alfred Lisa Martell of Parma, Oh., Barry Martell of Portland, OR., and Donald Denise Martell of Aurora, Oh., a sister, Ruth Buzz Holsopple of Hermitage, Pa., four brothers, John Marlene and Robert Helen Martell both of Hermitage, PA., William Helen Martell of Connecticut, and Donald Geri Martell of Mississippi, fifteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Spencer, and Betty Boyer.
