BOARDMAN - A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church for Mrs. Alice E. Nicols, 81, who died Thursday, March 24, at Hospice House.
Mrs. Nicols was born on April 19, 1934, in Youngstown, daughter of Joseph and Helen (Schirck) Ernst.
She was a graduate of Wilson High School, before completing her BSN from St. Louis University.
Alice worked as both an instructor for St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, and as a registered nurse, before retiring in the early 2000s. A faithful member of St. Charles, Alice was involved in the church's bowling league, ladies guild, and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She also enjoyed various sports, especially golf. She was very active in the Mill Creek Women's Golf League.
Alice's husband, Robert A. Nicols, whom she married on Aug. 13, 1960, died on Dec. 25, 1989.
Alice leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Beth (Chet) Hahne of Gainsville, Va.; son Tim (Kim) Nicols of Granite Bay, Calif.; sister Joan Sacchet of Canfield; and two grandchildren, Mikayla and Brianna Nicols.
Besides her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.
The family would like to share their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Tom Boniface, and the staff of Hospice House for the compassionate care of Alice, and requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Alice's name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.
