Springfield - Services will be held Wednesday at 2 PM at the
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Poland Chapel for Allen B. "Gundy" Minnich, 82, who passed away Friday morning at Mahoning Valley Hospital.
Allen was born Feb. 15, 1926 in Waynesboro, PA, the son of Christian and Mary Rossman Minnich and came to this area in 1967.
Allen was a Fighter Pilot in US Army Air Corps serving in WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, French Croix DeGuerre and the Purple Heart. Allen was a truck driver for the Great Lakes
Express and Falcon Trucking Company, retiring in 2004. He attended the New Waterford United Methodist Church.
Allen leaves his wife the former Mildred Buhn whom he married in 1996; a daughter Barbara Earl Weaver Jr. of Chambersburg, PA; two sons Clifford W. Karen Minnich of Boise, Idaho, and Ray Denise Minnich of Akron; five step-daughters Nancy Hostetler of Lost Creek, KY, Carol Dennis Massey of Enon Valley, PA, Lynn Cain of New Springfield, Sandra John Cannell of New Waterford, and Judith Chuck Sandstrom of Darlington, PA; three step-sons Thomas Cynthia Dorrington of Cincinnatti, Terry Julie Dorrington of Rockville, MD and Carl Jenny Buhn Jr. of New Waterford; a sister Clemma Fred Cordell of Waynesboro, PA; twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his first wife Martha Helfrick and second wife Dorothy Goodrich Dorrington; three sisters Elizabeth Brunner, Helen Doyle and Mary Izer; and six brothers Edward, Walter, Joseph, Ralph, Mark and Christian Minnich.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Poland Chapel.
