YOUNGSTOWN – A prayer service will be held on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown with Fr. Edward Noga officiating for Mrs. Amelia “Irene” Bondar, 86, who died Monday with her family by her side.
She was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Hammonton, N.J., a daughter of Andrew and Pearl (Fenili) Jannett.
Irene was a 1950 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Vineland, N.J.
On Aug. 3, 1952, she married the love of her life, John S. Bondar, after falling in love when their hands touched while passing a bowl of peas at Thanksgiving dinner. They shared 58 years, three children and countless laughs before John passed in 2011.
Irene was a member of the church and it’s Senior Citizen Club, Garden Club and the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved puzzles and dinners out with friends of family but hated smiling for pictures.
Irene is survived by her children, John (Patti) Bondar of Youngstown and Deborah (Robert) Doinidis of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, Alfred (Joan) Givonetti of Naples,Fla.; five grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Bondar, James (Cindy) Bondar, Scott (Julie) Bondar, Melissa Bondar and Dane Corpa; four great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Beth Bondar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Jannett and Pearl Jannett Mahady; her husband, John; her son, Alfred; and her sister, Georgette Cox.
Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Parish Center.
