Andrew R. Frost Jr.

August 31, 1943 — June 6, 2024

Austintown

Andrew R. Frost Jr., 80, passed away on Thursday June 6, 2024, at UH Portage Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Andy was born August 31, 1943, in Youngstown, the son of the late Andrew R. and Rita Ravey Frost Sr.

Andy was a 1961 graduate of North High School. He met the love of his life, Nancy Wilkins, while working together in a grocery store on the Northside. They spent 38 wonderful years together raising their family in Austintown.  Most people are lucky to find love once in their lifetime, but after Nancy’s passing, Andy married Charlotte Guest and they spent the past 20 years enjoying life and family together.

Andy worked many jobs to provide for his family. He worked at General Motors for 20 years, owned a trucking business, owned a photography business and sold real estate but his passion was always in firefighting. His commitment to public service was exemplified by his career in the Austintown Fire Department. He joined as a volunteer firefighter in 1966 and eventually rose to the position of chief in 1985. After decades of selfless work, he retired from the fire service in 2012. His impact extended beyond firefighting as he also served on the Board of Directors for the Canfield Fair for 20 years, 2 years as President, retiring from this role just last November.

Andy was passionate about improving fire protection in Northeast Ohio.  He worked tirelessly with other Chiefs and Fire Departments in the tri-county area and MCCTC, to create one of the best firefighter training programs in the State of Ohio.  He was the coordinator in Public Safety at MCCTC. Another major accomplishment was his involvement in the construction of the twin bridges over Meander Reservoir, ensuring proper construction with chemical retention to safeguard our areas water supply.  The bridge is now a model used throughout the country.

Chief Frost is leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to his community.  Among his many involvements were past president of the Parish Council at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Vice President and Trustee for the Austintown Little Falcons and Austintown Youth Baseball leagues. He was also a member of multiple fire and safety organizations, including the Mahoning County Fire Chiefs Association, Ohio State Firefighters Association, Ohio State Fire Chiefs Association, International Association of Fire Chiefs, Mahoning County Hazmat Team, Mahoning County 911 Executive Board, Northeast Ohio EMS Council, Metro Arson Task Force board, Mahoning County Warm Air Board, and the Austintown Growth Foundation Hall of Fame.  His passion for racing sail boats led him to become an active member of local sailing groups, particularly the Pymatuning Yacht Club. When not on the water, Andycould often be found cruising around The Villages in Florida on his golf cart with Charlotte and his best friend Talbot.

Andy loved his family more than anything else. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest joy. He could always be seen at school events, sitting in the bleachers at sporting events, attending graduations and birthdays.  Andy never missed a time to be with his family.

Andy has touched so many lives…family, friends, associates, and strangers.  He will be missed!

Andrew R. Frost Jr. is survived by his wife, Charlotte Engelmann Frost, whom he married in 2004; his children, Andy (Eileen) Frost III of Austintown, Brian (Tonya) Frost of Canfield, and Debbie (Dan) McLaughlin of Youngstown; stepsons, Jeffrey Guest and Benjamin Guest of FL; grandchildren, Derek Frost, Lauren Wolfgang, Dylan, Korey, and CJ Frost, Brandon, Maxie, Cassie, and Tessa Wirtz, Meagan McLaughlin, Dr. Lauren Peck, and Nathan and Rena Guest.; great grandchildren, Connor, Cameron, Isabella, Miles, Zander, Asher, and Ila; and his siblings, Larry (Carol) Frost of Lordstown, Jim (Pam) Frost of Sarasota, FL, Ken (Holly) Frost of Columbiana, Tom (Debbi) Frost of North Jackson, and Dick (Debbie) Frost of Parrish, FL.
