Andrew Kadvan

STRUTHERS - Prayers will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church for Andrew J. Kadvan, 80, who passed away Thursday evening at his home surrounded by his family.

Andrew was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Youngstown, the son of the late John and Josephine Herceg Kadvan.

Andrew was a graduate of Chaney High School. He was a cement truck driver for Youngstown Building Materials for 35 years, retiring in 1988. Andrew was a member of the Mahoning Valley Sportsmans Club in Hillsville and the Catholic Sokols. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening.

Andrew leaves his wife, the former Christine Rose Naples, whom he married Nov. 25, 1948; two daughters, Margaret "Moggie" Thomas Bero of Poland and Tina Thomas Gilpin, with whom he made his home with in Struthers; two sons, Andrew Betty Ann Kadvan Jr. of Poland and Gary Kadvan of Struthers; 12 grandchildren, Ralph Gilpin, Jason Gilpin Amanda, Ronnie Galazia Jamie, Sergio Galazia, Aaron Jennifer Bero, Josh Bero, Christopher Kadvan Liz, Nicky Mshar Darlene, Michael Kadvan, Mandi Douglas Musser, Lisa Alan Clark and Nicole Fray ; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marie Galazia Tisone; a grandson, Gary Kadvan; two sisters, Celia Check and Magdaline Vasko; two brothers, John and Joseph Kadvan.

The family will be receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family requests that material tributes may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley.
