YOUNGSTOWN — Andrew Joseph Sedlar, 86, died peacefully Thursday evening, April 2, 2020, at Hospice House.
Andrew was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Penowa, Pa., the son of Andrew H. and Anna Kapina Sedlar.
He worked as a structural ironworker for Local No. 207 for 35 years and retired in 1997.
Andrew was also a veteran of the United States Army and served his country for three years.
Andrew was a longtime member of St. Christine Church. He was a member of the Round Table Wood Carvers at Park Vista Living Center, Austintown Eagles, Austintown Saxon Club and the Pinochle Club.
Andrew enjoyed being outdoors, especially cutting wood for the fireplace they used daily. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing his crops with family and friends.
Andrew is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Novotny, whom he married Sept. 10, 1960; daughter, Cynthia (Doug) Baker of Austintown; two sons, Gregory Sedlar of Pell City, Ala. and Edward (Michelle) Sedlar of Barumph, Nev.; sister, Dolores Petrus of Boardman; brother, Frank A. (Margaret) Sedlar of Austintown; four grandchildren, Amanda, Gregory, Nicholas and Austin Sedlar; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Josephine Papula and Marianne Kozbial; and brother, Thomas Sedlar.
Family and friends may call Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel. Prayers will begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christine Church.
Memorial tributes may take the form of donations to the St. Christine Capital Improvement Fund.
