YOUNGSTOWN - Ann Marie Charlebois, 88, passed away peacefully Jan. 3, 2014, at Hampton Woods in Poland.
Ann Marie was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Youngstown, the daughter of Michael and Ellen (Helen) McNulty Dempsey.
She attended St. Edward Elementary and Junior High School from grades 1 through 9 and graduated from Ursuline High School in 1943. She then attended Youngstown College and graduated from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in 1946.
After graduation she worked in the newborn nursery at St. Elizabeth Hospital and then became the Director of Auxiliary Nursing, where she set up the in-service education program for nurses' aides and orderlies.
In 1952, she moved to New York City after marrying her husband, William Henry Charlebois, on July 12, 1952. While he attended medical school, she worked as an assistant head nurse at Flower and Fifth Avenues Hospital. She later set up an in-service education program for nurses' aides and orderlies. Then under the auspices of the United Hospital Association, the American Medical Association and the American Nurses' Association, she traveled to 265 hospitals in New York City and Westchester County. She returned to Youngstown in 1955 to start a family.
She was a member of St. Edward's Church and the Garden Club of Little Flower, of which she served for several years as secretary, and was a Board member of Logan Swim and Tennis Club. In addition, she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.
Ann Marie will be sadly missed and remembered by her five children, William Henry Charlebois Jr. of Youngstown, Maureen (William) Vendemia of Boardman, Jeanne Ann Charlebois of Chagrin Falls, Mary Ellen Charlebois of Girard, and Kevin (Monique) Charlebois of Carmel, Ind.; and 10 grandchildren, Megan and Eric Vendemia, Bryant, Jason, and Alexander Tantlinger, Ryan and Sarah Lalchand, and Paulina, Collin and Abby Charlebois. She also leaves her sister, Helen Rita (John) Joyce of University Heights; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Dr. William Charlebois, passed away Nov. 23, 1974.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Marguerite Coughlin.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Jan. 11, 2014, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at St. Edward's Church. A funeral Mass will follow at noon.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to St. Edward's Church, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown, OH 44504.
