POLAND - Prayers will begin Saturday morning at 9:00 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Matthias Church for Anna M. Gocala age 87 who passed away Monday afternoon at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Boardman.
Anna was born November 24, 1920 in Campbell, OH, the daughter of Anthony and Veronica Hutnansky Koly.
She was a 1938 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and had worked at the Stambaugh Thompson Hardware Store in downtown Youngstown as a shipping clerk. She later worked at the Carrousel Snack Shop in the Southern Park Mall and had been a longtime babysitter for many families in the area. She was a member of St. Matthias Church and its Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.
Her husband John H. Gocala whom she married November 23, 1946 died January 20, 1976.
She is survived by a son John J. "Jack" and his wife Joan Gocala of Poland, two grandchildren; Dr. Mary Jo Scott McIntyre and John Kristin Gocala Jr., three great-grandchildren; Aiden and Jacqueline McIntyre and Isabelle Gocala.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters Helen Jazwinski and Mary Hanigovsky, and a brother George Koly.
Friends may call from 4 PM to 7 PM Friday evening at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel where the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will have a prayer service at 3:45 PM.
