A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 13, 2018, at 10am at the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, with Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio, Jr., for Archie J. Finamore Jr., 69, who passed away Saturday evening at Hospice House, surrounded by family.
Archie was born December 13, 1948, in Youngstown, son of the late Achille and Anna (Massullo) Finamore Sr.
Archie grew up in Smokey Hollow and was a 1966 graduate of The Rayen School. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Youngstown State University in 1971. At YSU, he was Commander of the ROTC cadets and Commander of the Pershing Rifles Company P-1. In the Army Corps of Engineers, Archie served in the cleanup effort at Wilkes-Barre, PA and Operation Desert Storm. He retired from the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. He also retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he worked as a civil engineer for almost thirty years.
Archie lived by his faith every day, and he was a lifelong member of his church. He was proud of his Italian heritage and was a member of the Bagnolese Men's Club. He also enjoyed singing, classical music, woodworking, military history, genealogy, investing, and spending time with his dear friends, many of whom grew up with him in Youngstown. With all of his hobbies and accomplishments, including delivering his second child, his greatest pride and joy was his family, which he always put first. He loved his children more than himself, and to his wife, he was her everything.
Archie leaves his wife of almost forty years, the former Angela Markota, whom he married April 15, 1978; his four children, Alyssa Finamore of Falls Church, VA, Alyson (Kyle) Chepla of Pepper Pike, Michael (Jaclyn) Finamore of Poland, and Matthew Finamore of Houston, TX; and six grandchildren, Auburn, Crimson, Alena, Christopher, Alec, and Faye.
In lieu of flowers, material tributes may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, OH 44512,330-788-1992, website: hospiceofthevalley.com, or to a charity of one's choice.
