Arthur Davis

June 10, 1929 — September 12, 2006

NEW MIDDLETOWN - There will be services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Springfield Church of God, 3649 E. Garfield Road, for Arthur Hampton Davis, 77, who passed away Tuesday afternoon at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Arthur was born June 10, 1929 in Youngstown, the son of Hampton and Carrie Hopkins Davis.

A graduate of East High School, he worked in the hydraulics department of Commercial Shearing for 20 years before being named staff representative for the United Steel Workers of America. He served the union as its staff
representative for more than 23 years before retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the New Springfield Church of God, and had taught Sunday School and volunteered for its Angel Food Ministries. Arthur was also past president of the East High School All Sports Hall of Fame, a lifelong Red Sox fan and was a trustee for the Springfield Township Baseball Association. He was a member of the Mahoning Valley Civil War Round Table, the Commercial Inter-Tech retirees, and had been the originator and editor of the Commercial Shearing
newsletter "Shop Talk." Mr. Davis was also a charter member of both the Ohio Labor Press Association, and the United Steel Workers Press Association . As an active member of the community, he served on the board of directors for the Hospital Care Corporation, was a member of the new Springfield
Library fund raising campaign, and had co-chaired the local United Way fund raising campaign for three years.

Arthur will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather by his family.

He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia King, whom he married May 17, 1952; two daughters, Mary E. Davis of New Middletown and Ruth Bill Riley of New Springfield; a son, John H. Diane Davis Sr. of New Middletown; and five grandchildren, John, Carrie, and Ashley Davis, and Megan and Ally Riley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Wauschek; and an infant daughter, Carol Davis.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Arthur¹s family has requested that material contributions take the form of donations to either the New Springfield Church of God building fund or the Public Library of Mahoning County-Springfield Library.
