POLAND - Services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel for Arthur F. Flynn age 82 of Poland who passed away Sunday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center from complications from heart surgery.
Art was born August 5, 1924, in McKeesport, PA, the son of Arthur F. and Mary Long Flynn.
After graduating from Struthers High School he enrolled and attended Kent State University before enlisting in the Army and serving his country in W.W.II. He then worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube for over 32 years before retiring as a traffic coordinator in 1976. He then worked in sales for the Erskin Trucking Company. Mr. Flynn enjoyed working with people and after his retirement assisted a number of area funeral homes as an attendant. He currently worked at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes for the past 14 years.
Mr. Flynn was a charter member of the Poland United Methodist Church, and a passionate supporter of Poland Athletics for the past 40 years. He was a familiar face at almost all Poland High School games and had volunteered as a ticket taker. He was proud to have been a Mason for 60 years, belonging to Sulgrave Lodge # 696, and the Poland Masonic Breakfast Club. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed driving his 1955 Chevy in local parades, and was a member of the Salem Quaker City Band, and the Youngstown and Canfield Community Bands. He had also served on the board of Forrest Lawn Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife the former Beverly Murray whom he married June 18, 1949, two sons, Dennis Pam Flynn of Hinsdale, Ill, and Mark Flynn of Cuyahoga Falls, and four grandchildren, Shea and Shannon Flynn, and Loren and Mackenzie Flynn.
Friends may call from 4 PM to 8 PM Wednesday, and from 10 AM to 11 AM Thursday morning at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the church memorial fund.
