Ashley R. Shumaker

June 11, 1987 — August 26, 2024

MINERVA - Ashley Rose Shumaker, 37, gained her angel wings on August 25th, 2024 and went to be with the Lord.

Born June 11, 1987 to Richard Shumaker and Scarlette Donahey, she was a loving and compassionate soul with a sense of humor.

Graduating from MCCTC with honors, she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Kaplan University, as well as a Veterinary Technician degree.

Ashley had a deep passion for animals and founded Paws for Life which offered a safe haven for animals in need, as well as operating Silver Runs Farm where she had a plethora of animals including but not limited to chickens, goats, dogs, and cats. Working with animals brought her a great sense of joy and peace. As caring as Ashley was with animals, her empathy and kindness for others was well known.

She had a big heart and would often offer words of encouragement and prayers to those who shared their struggles. She took great joy from spending time with family and hosting family get-togethers on holidays and special occasions, often dressing her furry friends in festive bows for the celebrations. Her ability with sewing and crafting was a growing talent that she used to bless her friends and family and their pets. Her creativity and talent went beyond sewing. Ashley had a green thumb and shared many joyous times on the farm with her mother gardening and canning. Ashley enjoyed baking, pushing herself with new recipes and ideas. From a young age, Ashley especially looked forward to annual family holiday baking traditions, in addition to some added fun, including teaming up with her sister with clever pranks. She also loved spending time in nature and searching for all creatures great and small.

She will be sorely missed by her parents, Scarlette Donahey of Struthers and Richard (Lorrie) Shumaker of Boardman; her beloved sister Carly Shumaker of Struthers; brother Noah Shumaker of Boardman; much loved nephews, Julian Bennett and Xavier Shumaker; aunt Kathleen Bossick of Struthers; fiance, Chris Short; and his family, parents, Lisa (Tommy) Thompson and Mark Short of Canton, and his brothers Michael (Shayna) Short, Stephen (Jamie) Short, and Nathan (Nikki) Short.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ernest and Jenny Donahey, and aunt Laurie Donahey. You may call upon the family to pay respects on August 30, 2024, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. This time will be immediately followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00PM at Jubilee Christian Fellowship located at 5110 S Canfield-Niles Rd, Canfield, OH 44406.
