Attilio Tomassi

February 25, 1927 — June 15, 2015

POLAND - A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, for Mr. Attilio Tomassi, also known as Arthur Thomas, 88, who died at his residence early Monday morning.

He was born Feb. 25, 1927, in New Castle, Pa., a son of Jess and Pauline Tomassi.

As a child, he and his family moved to L'Aquila, Italy, and then moved back to this area after the war.

Attilio was employed by Youngstown Sheet & Tube as a welder, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church. He loved to play Morra and was an, avid golfer, hunter and avid bowler, playing on the Wabash Bears bowling league.

Attilio married the former Gemma Rauso on July 31, 1955, and she died Dec. 13, 2011.

His greatest joy was his family especially his grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, MaryAnn Thomas of Poland; his son, Art (Sue) Thomas of Boardman; two grandchildren, Jessica and A.J. Thomas; three sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Rauso, Madeline Gurneal and Regina (Carl) Chiafullo; and one brother-in-law, James (Judy) Rauso.

Attilio was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gemma; daughter Cynthia Thomas; and his brother, Louis Thomas.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Tridia Hospice for all of their care and compassion for Attilio.
