YOUNGSTOWN - There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Dominic Church for Atty. Clair M. Carlin age 58, who passed away peacefully Wednesday evening in Hawaii where he had attended his son Alex?s wedding.
Clair was born April 20, 1947 in Sharon, Pa, the son of Charles W. "Buster" and Caroline Vukasich Carlin.
Mr. Carlin was a revered local attorney with many years of service to the community and throughout Ohio. He was a 1965 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics in 1969 from the Ohio State University and graduated from its College of Law in 1972. He was an avid Ohio State football fan holding season tickets since 1967.
He held many positions during his career that include Special Counsel for the Office of the Attorney General State of Ohio and City of Youngstown, Law Director for the city of Newton Falls, Hearing Examiner for the Ohio Department of Taxation, State Director of Catholic War Veterans, and the Assistant City Solicitor for the city of Warren. He currently had his own practice, Clair M. Carlin LLC in Poland. His work was published in numerous publications across the country and made presentations at a variety of conventions and academies.
He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and was past President of the Mahoning County Bar Association. He was an advocate of M.A.D.D. on the state level. He was also past President of the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers and the Mahoning-Trumbull Counties Academy of Trial Lawyers. He served his country in the United States Army beginning in 1969 with the Ohio State University ROTC Program and went on to graduate the Army Signal Officer Basic Course at Fort Gordon, GA, the Military Police Officers Advance Course, and the Command and General Staff College. He was also proud of his time spent with the Boy Scouts of America and that he was able to earn its highest honor, Eagle Scout. He was strong in his faith and a deep love for his family.
Clair is survived by his wife Pamela Rodehaver, whom he married September 24, 2001, his mother, his children Elizabeth Jennifer O?Malley Carlin, Alexander Sarah Carlin and Eric Heather Carlin; two sisters Judy Carlin and her husband Michael Dring and Anna James Roncevic; a brother David Carol Carlin; and a niece and three nephews, Eric Krohngold, Jacob Carlin and Michael and Michelle Roncevic.
He was preceded in death by his father and maternal grandparents, Steve and Rose Vukasich.
Friends may call on Tuesday from noon to 3PM and 5 to 8PM at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
