AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will begin Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church at 10 a.m., for Barbara DeBrosky, 82, who died Saturday evening at home, surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born Nov. 14, 1933, in Youngstown, the daughter of Andrew and Catherine (Brosnack) Pogacnik.
She began her career with MetLife in 1951, and retired as branch administrator in 1996. Barbara resided in San Fernando Valley, Calif. for nine years and subsequently retired to Ohio in 1971. She was a graduate of Ursuline High School, a member of St. Joseph Church, and a Third Order Secular Franciscan at the Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted on South Belle Vista.
Her first love was making rosaries at the Franciscan Shrine, where many of the rosaries were sent to foreign missions and countries. Barbara enjoyed gardening, crocheting and baking her Christmas kolachi. She was always on the look out for new recipes.
Her husband, Charles DeBrosky, whom she married Oct. 29, 1960, died Sept. 28, 2008.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Andi (Steve) Sebest of Canfield; son Charles (Susan) DeBrosky of Houston; her loving grandson, Ethan DeBrosky; loving granddaughter, Taylor DeBrosky; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Pogacnik, Patty Pogacnik, and Dawn Beckwith; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Leonard and Robert Pogacnik.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
