BARBARA ANN MURRAY
CANFIELD - Prayers will begin Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Noon at St. Joseph Church for Barbara Ann Murray, 77, who died Friday evening at Essex One in Salem.
Barbara was born Jan. 12, 1936, in New Castle, Pa., the daughter of Philip John and June Louise (DeGarmo) Murray.
She had served in the U.S. Army as a WAC and graduated from West Liberty State University with her Bachelors in Dental Hygiene. She later earned her Master's in Education from Youngstown State University.
She had worked for a year at the New Castle Post Office and moved to Youngstown area in 1961 to begin a long teaching career with the Austintown School System. She taught first at Frank Ohl for three years and later as a 3rd grade teacher at Woodside Elementary, retiring after 25 years in 1989.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Phi Delta Alpha sorority, the Retired Teachers Association and participated in local bowling leagues and card clubs. She loved boating, fishing and travel.
She is survived by her twin sister, Patricia Ann Murray Kemper of Columbia, S.C.; and nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, June Eileen Hunt; and two brothers, Philip Arthur Murray and Daniel Michael Murray.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to either "A leg up" Charity for children or Hospice of the Valley in Barbs memory.
