YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will begin Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 1 p.m. at St. Brendan's Church in Youngstown for Benny Angelo Zitello who passed away Tuesday morning at Park Viesta Nursing Home, formerly of the west side of Youngstown.
Benny was born Oct. 10, 1917, in Youngstown, a son of the late Frank and Jennie Martone Zitello.
He served in the Navy during World War II and was a rigger at U.S. Steel for 43 years, retiring in 1979. Benny also ran the Zitello Grocery Store on Oakwood for many years. He was a member of the church, the Knights of Columbus No. 274, the Solvak Catholic Sokols, and a former member of the U.S. Steel bowling league.
His first wife, the former Helen Delores Brusko, whom he married in August of 1940, died July 26, 1974.
Benny leaves his wife, the former Estelle Lenkowech, whom he married Dec. 16, 1978; two sisters, Natalie McBride and Gloria Bob Jacubek, both of Youngstown; and three brothers, Stanley Zitello and John Zitello, both of Youngstown and Frank Dorothy Zitello of McDonald.
Benny was also preceded in death by a sister, Angeline Bozin and three brothers, Sam, Anthony, and Robert Zitello.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday from noon to 12:30 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
