AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will begin Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated at 10 a.m., at St. Christine Church, for Bernard Mathew Kalinay, 77. He passed away Monday morning, surrounded by his family.
Bernard was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of Peter J. and Verna (Gongo) Kalinay.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he began a career working as a foreman at General Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of St. Christine Church, the Eagles Aerie No. 1296 in Austintown, the Croation Home on Vestal Road, and the N.R.A. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, reading, and was an outstanding cook.
He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Stunja, whom he married Nov. 26, 1960; a daughter, Kathleen (Patrick) Kilkenney of Concord; two sons, Michael (Cathi) Kalinay of Youngstown and Bernard Jr. (Gretchen) Kalinay of Austintown; two sisters, Patricia Stunja and Dolores Muratore, both of Ralph, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Justin and Nathan Kalinay, Ryan and Bridget Kilkenney and Rachel Hoffman.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
