YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Church in Youngstown for Bernard B. Stickel, 94, who passed away Sunday at Meridian Arms.
Bernard was born July 3, 1917, in Youngstown, the son of the late Fred Carl and Mary Catherine Morgan Stickel.
Bernard worked for U.S. Steel for 35 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of St. Brendan Church. He played baseball for various westside teams and coached. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and watching the Browns and Yankees.
His wife, the former Lucille Carkido, whom he married Feb. 13, 1945, passed away May 3, 2006.
Bernard leaves his daughter, Bernice Durkin of Youngstown; two sons, Louie Stickel and Richard Lori Stickel, both of Youngstown; two sisters, Margaret Jendre of Youngstown and Vera DePaul of Boardman; and six grandchildren, Sean Michelle Durkin, Shannon David Barnes, Louis R. Stickel, Gregory Stickel, Kelly Stickel and Katie Stickel.
Bernard was also preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph; three sisters, Helen Thomas, Martha Pascarella and Elizabeth Stickel; and four brothers, George Stickel, Fred Stickel Jr., William Stickel and Morgan Stickel.
Family and friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
