YOUNGSTOWN There will be memorial services at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Bessie Gallagher, 90, who died Saturday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 4, 1916 in Fort Dodge, a daughter of Michael and Emily Balcair and moved to Howland as a child, where she attended Bolindale Elementary School and Howland High School. She worked for many years in the Youngstown School System as a custodial aide at Mary Haddow school, retiring
in 1986.
Among her favorite pastimes was playing bridge and she belonged to a bridge club for more than 50 years. When arthritis limited her ability to travel, she read a great deal and worked crossword puzzles in ink. Her keen
interest in politics kept her mind alert and her conversation spirited.
She married Chandos Gallagher in 1938 and he died in 1986.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Grover Jim Gallagher; and four sisters, Sue Athey, Molly Frankie, Margaret Smith and Emilt Thompson.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the funeral home.
