"Together Again"

COLUMBIANA - Prayers will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral for Betty J. Berry, 89, who passed away Sunday morning at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center with her family at her side.

Betty was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Victor and Mary (Williams) Smith.

Betty was a graduate of The Rayen School. She was a member of St. Columba Cathedral and a teacher's aid for many years at their school until it closed. She then became the housekeeper for the church rectory. Betty loved spending time with her family. She loved gardening, shopping, crocheting and embroidering. Her greatest love was for her family and spending time with all of them.

Her husband, Edward Berry, who she married Dec. 2, 1950, passed away Oct. 22, 2009.

Betty leaves her five daughters, Bonnie Putt of Youngstown, Dianne (John) Mahinis of Canfield, Maureen (Charles) Cook of Hubbard, Hollie (David) Baker of Canfield and Liz (Augie) D'Amato of Youngstown; 14 grandchildren, Richard (Heather) Rankin, Edward (Jill) Rankin, Heather and Kimberly Putt, Kally (Tom) Moore, Nick Mahinis, Lexie (Luke) Zuzga, Vicky D'Amato, Michael Baker, Lori Pool, Tracy (Bob) Smith, Kelly (Scott) Maruniak, Chuck (Lexy) Cook and Christopher (Tina) Cook; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters Donna Houser of Youngstown, Susan Fercana of Poland and Charlene Smith of Youngstown; and a brother, Joseph Smith of Poland.

Betty was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise Shea and Joanne Perry; and one brother, Victor Smith.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.

Material tributes may take the form of donations to St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center, 1899 West Garfield Road, Columbiana, OH 44408.

Betty's family would like to give an extra special thank you to all of the loving and caring staff members at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center for their amazing care. They would also like to thank Hospice of the Valley for their care during Betty's final days.
