WARRENSBURG, N.Y. - Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Betty Jean Srock, 86, formerly of Youngstown, passed away quietly into the arms of the Lord, Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Westmount Health facility following a long illness.
Born April 17, 1927, in Clearfield County, Pa., she was the oldest of nine children born to the late Frederick Albert and Josephine Ruth (Keith) Srock.
Betty graduated from Madera High School in Pennasylvannia, and later from the Carnegie Institute in Cleveland.
She was employed by General Electric in Youngstown for several years, and then by the Glens Falls Hospital Lab, from where she retired in 1992 after 30 years of dedicated service.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg for many years, where she enjoyed quilting with the church's sewing group. Betty was always ready and willing to help out in any way she could. She also enjoyed gardening and maintaining her lawn. Betty was an avid painter and gifted her family many of her favorite works. She loved to travel and toured Europe, Alaska, and the United States, by way of boat, camping, and even covered wagon train.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Fred Srock; a sister, Priscilla Robinson; and nephew, James Michael Srock.
She is survived by her siblings, William Srock and his wife, Joyce of Berlin Center, James Srock of McDonald, Gary Srock and his wife, Wilma of Salem, Elmira May of Danielsville, Ga., Bertha Foust of Salem, and Mildred Putney and her husband, Donald of Warrensburg, with whom she lived for a short while. Betty also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
