BOARDMAN ? A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church for Betty H. ?Bets? McCarthy, 82, formerly of Pittsburgh, who died Saturday at Victoria House.
Betty was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of Daniel and Helen Drummond Hawes.
She had worked as a registered nurse for the Allegheny Health Department for over 25 years before retiring.
She was a member of the Allegheny County Nurses Association, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glenfield, Pa., and currently was a member of St. Charles Church in Boardman.
She enjoyed making wine with her husband and was a member of the American Wine Society.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. McCarthy, whom she married June 27, 1950; a daughter, Mary Beth McCarthy of Erie, Pa.; two sons; Thomas J. Karen McCarthy of Boardman and Joseph D. Dalal McCarthy of Fayetteville, Pa.; three grandchildren, Robin and Corey Peterson and Suzy McCarthy; and two sisters, Rita Simon of Corapolis, Pa. and Joan Robert O'Connor of Monroeville, Pa.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters; Marie Cottrell and Helen Farrington; and two brothers, George and John Hawes.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to either the American Lung Association or Hospice of the Valley in Betty's memory.
