CANFIELD ? Prayers will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon at the Holy Family Church for Betty Zelina, 89, formerly of Poland, who passed away Saturday morning at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Betty was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Youngstown, the youngest of 14 children and the daughter of John and Anna Prodracky Stanislaw.
Betty graduated in the first graduating class of 1939 from Wilson High School. During the war, she worked as a crane operator at a Youngstown Steel Mill. Along with staying home and taking care of her children, she was a secretary for Marks Waste Paper Company.
She was a member of the Holy Family Church, where she was past president of the Altar Guild and enjoyed counting money after Mass. She contributed to the St. Vincent DePauls and helped in their soup kitchen. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxillary. She was an avid reader and her greatest love was spending time with her family.
Her husband, George Zelina, whom she married Oct. 25, 1941, passed away Aug. 1, 2003.
Betty leaves her five children, Georgeann Buonpane, with whom she made her home in Canfield, Beth Ronald LeBreton of Cornelius, N.C., George Debra Zelina of Poland, Bonnie Okular of New Middletown and Gail Allender of Salem; a sister, Justina Repasky of Youngstown; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Kart, Amy Spath, Gina Buonpane, John Lambert Jr., Jaime Ketterhagen, Melissa Stenger, Matthew Zelina, Cory, Kyle and Kara Okular, and Justin Allender; and four great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
