Bob Popovich

BOARDMAN - Prayers will begin Friday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Matthias Church for Bob "Poppy" Popovich, 58, who died Tuesday morning at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.

Bob was born April 3, 1951, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Pauline Krumpegol Popovich.

He was a 1969 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and had worked as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for over 35 years, before retiring in 2007.

Bob will always be remembered as an ordinary man who lived an extraordinary life.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, whom he married July 5, 1996; a stepdaughter, Stefanie Colonna of San Diago; a stepson, John Theresa Colonna of San Francisco; two stepgrandchildren, Ella and Major Colonna; a brother, Joseph Popovich of Youngstown; and his mother-in-law, Kay Chaszeyka of New Middletown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Steve Chaszeyka.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to either Hospice of the Valley or the American Cancer Society in Bob's memory.
