YOUNGSTOWN - Services will be Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Captain Albert Leon Nelson, Retired USN, who died Friday at his home of congestive heart failure.
Leon was born Jan. 24, 1937, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Gust E. and Hannah A. Holmgren Nelson.
He was a decorated Naval veteran who served in the Vietnam War and later retired as a Hull Technician Captain after over 20 years of service. After his Naval career, he worked as the water treatment plant supervisor for Manatee County in Florida, retiring in 2000. He moved to this area three ears ago from Land O' Lakes, Fla. He was a member of VFW Post No. 0888.
His wife, the former Judith Hoffman whom he married April 23, 1984, died Nov. 10, 2011.
He is survived by a sister, Daislyn; his sister-in-law, Edna (Jeff) Bailey of Youngstown; two nieces, Andrea Brindisi and Jennifer Leatham; and two nephews, Christopher Permiceo and Raymond Permiceo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
Leon will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
