Carl Birath

February 23, 1913 — October 28, 2008

YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will begin Friday morning at 9:15 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Christine Church for Carl T. Birath age 95 who passed away Friday morning at the Hospice House.

Carl was born February 23, 1913 in Youngstown, the son of John Albin and Ellen Lundquist Birath.

He worked as a steel worker for over 35 years retiring as a pipe inspector at Republic Steel in 1978, and was a longtime member of St. Christine Church. Carl enjoyed all types of carpentry and woodworking and would build furniture for his friends and family. He also enjoyed working around his home and the pride he took in its appearance and his manicured yard.

He is survived by a daughter Karen J. John Wendle of Youngstown, a son Carl J. Birath of Austintown, two sisters; Donna Jean Robert Whitnack of Evansville, Indiana and Anna Marie Martindale of Tucson, AZ, two brothers; John Birath of Boardman, and Kenneth Birath of New Middletown, two grandchildren; John Wendle of Moscow, Russia and Abigail Wendle of Ashville, NC., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years the former Eleanor R. Itts whom he married February 3, 1940 and who died April 1, 2008, his parents John Albin and Ellen Birath, a step mother Marie Gustafson Birath, three sisters; Ethel Baker, Ellen Mae Lyster, and Vivian Birath, two brothers Louis and Donald Birath, and three step brothers; Robert, Roger and Ralph Gustafson.

Friends may call from 4 PM to 7 PM Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to either St. Christine Church or Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market St. Youngstown, Ohio 44512 in Carl's memory.
