Carl Chaney

YOUNGSTOWN – A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, for Carl William Chaney, 43, who died on Friday.

Carl was born Dec. 9, 1975, in Youngstown, a son of Carl Chaney and MaryAnn (Grant) Chaney.

He had attended The Rayen School and graduated from Struthers High School. Carl was active in football, track and the band. After high school, Carl went right into the Service and served in the U.S. Marine Corp and the Navy. His training included reconnaissance, Army Airborne, water-demolition and Navy Seals training. In 2001 and 2002, Carl was in Operation Enduring Freedom which he was on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. He received two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals. Carl attended Youngstown State University and received National leadership and Honors awards.

He worked at Simmers Crane as a crane repair engineer. Everyone can say Carl lived life to the fullest. He was “Forrest Gump” all over again. Carl would mountain climb, road cycle and rock climb. He went rock climbing with his best friend, Jeremy Bartel, which they had many adventures including Yosemite Valley. Carl cycled by bike across America all the way to California and had many crazy things happen during the venture. Above all Carl said his greatest achievement and enjoyment was spending time with his two boys.

Carl leaves his parents; mother MaryAnn Chaney, with whom he made his home; father Carl Chaney of Youngstown; his two sons, Tyler W. Chaney of Las Vegas, and Rowan W. Barr of Denton, Texas; one granddaughter, Ariel; sister, Antina M. (Denny Brenner) of Hubbard; brother Brian Chaney of Youngstown; two half sisters, Alexa and Joelle Chaney; nephews Justin Serra and Liam Brenner; niece Kayla Snair; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William E. Grant Sr., Margaret A. Grant, John H. Chaney Sr. and Sarah M. Chaney.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
