Youngstown- Carl A. Knittel, Age 94, of Park Vista, departed this life on July 17, 2008 to be forever with the Lord.
Carl was born July 1, 1914 in Youngstown, the son of Carl G. and Caroline Wollitz Knittel.
A graduate of The Rayen School, he went on to study Music at Youngstown College and in 1935 he became the Organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Youngstown.
On June 19, 1937, he was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Ruth N. Weissenstein of Wilkinsburg, PA whom he loved dearly for 69 years before she preceded him in their spiritual journey to Heaven, on New Years Eve 2006.
After serving as Organist at Immanuel for over 20 years, Carl became the Organist at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Boardman, retiring after 40 more years service, and being designated Organist Emeritus of St. Mark Lutheran Church.
Carl worked as a carpenter for 18 years before he and Ruth returned to College to study for careers in Teaching. Together, they were employed by the Springfield Local School District, she as a fifth grade teacher, and he in the Industrial Arts Department, retiring in 1976.
At the time of his death, Carl was a member of the "Roundtable Woodcarvers" of Youngstown, and a past member of Local 171 Carpenters Union, and also a past member of the Youngstown Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Besides his wife Ruth, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Rudolph and Henry.
He leaves his daughter, Ruth Knittle of Tucson, Arizona; a son Paul of Japan and a son Carl, Jr. of Milpitas, California; five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Also, among others, he leaves two very dear, faithful friends, Richard Bowden and Frank Miller.
Funeral services will be 11AM Thursday, at St. Marks Lutheran Church, Boardman. Where friends may call one hour prior to services 10-11AM.
