Carl Kramer

POLAND - Prayers will begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church, for Carl Edward Kramer "Mr. Wonderful", 88, who died early Sunday morning at Hampton Woods Nursing Home surrounded by his family.

Carl was born Sept. 14, 1929, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Lenora (Zewe) Kramer.

He was a 1947 graduate of Ursuline High School and worked as a machinist for McKay Machine/ Wean United for 44 years.

Carl was a member of the "Corner Boys" and the Mill Creek Walkers. He worked as a contractor on the side for many years. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his family. Carl was known for being the family's historian, and his knowledge of the family's history will always be cherished.

Carl's wife, the former Phyllis Nelson, whom he married Nov. 23, 1950, preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2015.

He is survived by a son, Gordon "Nels" (Susan) Kramer of Enfield, Maine; daughters Joni (Mark) Catlos of Poland and Carol (Tim) Baillie of Salem; six grandchildren, Brad (Nadiann) Baillie of Westerville, and Katherine Jayne Baillie (Derek White) of Columbus, Karl Kramer of Boston, Leah Jayne (Marshall) Wakefield of Enfield, Michael (Beckee Milton) Catlos of Portland, Ore. and Jayne Elizabeth Catlos of Poland; great-grandson, Alexander Owen Baillie; sister-in-law Peg Kramer; and brother-in-law Al Kritter.

Carl was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter Jayne Elizabeth Kramer, who died in 1987; three brothers, Joe, Robert and Glen Kramer; and three sisters, Doris McFadden, Ruth Kritter and Lucille Sheetz.

Family and friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, material tributes take the form of donations to the Jayne Kramer Memorial Fund for Early Childhood Education at Kent State University, 2496 Timothy Knoll, Poland, OH 44514 or to Camp Fitch YMCA on Lake Erie, 12600 Abels Road, Springfield, PA 16430.
