YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will begin Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Church, for Carmel R. Boccia, 96, who died Monday morning at the Copper Cottage Hospice Center in Mesa, Ariz.
Carmel was born June 22, 1915, in Lowellville, the daughter of Pietro and Angeline Ruozzo Pirone.
Carmel was a 1934 graduate of Lowellville High School and a member of St. Brendan Church.
Her husband, Ralph, whom she married May 24, 1943, died Oct. 27, 1998.
She is survived by a son, Gene Boccia of Youngstown; a daughter, Virginia Dan Sondheimer of Chandler, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Shari Mike Eichman; three great-granddaughters, Allison, Katelyn and Brianna Eichman, all of Arizona; and two sisters-in-law, Josephine Medovich and Mary Stancher.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joey Sondheimer; five sisters, Mary Burrelli, Jennie Saborse, Novella Nolfi, Sue Rapone and Carrie Capple; and two brothers, Anthony and Frank Pirone.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
