YOUNGSTOWN — With deep sorrow and much love, we mourn the loss of Carol J. Leavitt, 68, who peacefully passed away at her home, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024.
Born July 3, 1956, in Youngstown, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. Sr. and Mary A. Bernard Missik.
A proud lifelong resident and a graduate of Chaney High School, Carol devoted her career to the U.S. Attorney’s Office as a legal assistant until her well-earned retirement. She found deep purpose in her work, aiding those who protect the innocent and uphold justice.
Above all, Carol cherished her role as a grandmother, known affectionately as GaGa. She joyfully documented every picture, every milestone, every growth chart record, every lost tooth and every adventure, and was sure to share with anyone who would listen.
She was an avid reader, loved her small container garden and held particular disdain for a large rabbit. She loved good food, good wine and good music, often quizzing her grandkids on the artists, making sure they appreciated the classics. Her open heart and ability to laugh at life’s absurdities endeared her to all who crossed her path. Whether sharing the story of a mishap with a certain graduation cake or offering a listening ear, Carol’s kindness and humor will be forever remembered. She could make friends with anyone, brought laughter to so many (even if at her own expense), and cared deeply and fiercely for her family. She was often encouraged to write a book about her many adventures; however, in God’s perfect timing, which only He knows, her adventures here seem cut short by those who knew her well.
She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Fellows (Christopher); longtime partner, Jay Skolnick; sisters, Georgianne Dorbish (John) and Marilyn McKelvey; and brother, Edward Missik Jr. (Pat); along with four grandchildren, Edward Reid, Emilia Jean, Eloise Connolly and Eva Jude Fellows.
Private family services will be held.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Arrangements are by Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
