YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. at the Christ Church Presbyterian for Caryl Martha Wynne, 83, of the city's Westside, who passed away Monday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2013, at Hospice House, surrounded by her family, following a brief illness.
Caryl was born Jan. 8, 1930, a daughter of the late Winfred and Martha (Forsyth) Schwab.
Caryl married William (Scotty) Wynne on March 30, 1962, recently celebrating 51 years of marriage.
Caryl graduated first in her class from Struthers High School in 1948. Following high school, she attended University of Michigan and graduated with a Bachelors in Nursing. She worked in hospitals across the United States, including Ann Arbor, Mich., San Francisco and Boston. She then ended her nursing career at Southside Hospital in Youngstown, where she served as both the head nurse of pediatrics as well as assistant head nurse on a medical/surgical floor.
She was a long time member of the Christ Church Presbyterian, where she served on numerous committees and clubs, including Sarah Ester Circle, Lydia Circle, Couples Club and Bible Study. She was also an active member of the Binky Patrol, Knit Wits, Red Hat Society, Music Club, Garden Club and University of Michigan local alumni chapter.
After having children, Caryl dedicated her life to raising her two daughters, and retired from nursing in 1966.
Judy (Rick) Neff of Cincinnati and Patty (Brian) Frank of Hudson were blessed to have the benefit of their mother's time and talents during their years growing up on the Westside of Youngstown. Caryl also enjoyed her role as grandma to her five grandchildren, Henry and Tyson Neff, and Camden, Peyton and Addison Frank. She was a loving sister to Phyllis (Ed) Grisa of Struthers.
Caryl will be remembered as an amazing baker, where pies were her specialty. She loved knitting, crocheting and other crafts, as hundreds of her handmade-knitted Christmas stockings are hung on mantles every year.
She also enjoyed reading, golfing, walking and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her in-laws, John and Bridget Wynne, and her brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Jane Wynne.
Family and friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made in Caryl's name to either Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512 or to the Christ Church Presbyterian Women's Organization, 1933 Canfield Road, Youngstown, OH 44511.
