STRUTHERS - Prayers will begin Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church, for Catherine M. Brumert, 85, formerly of Struthers, who died early Monday morning at Sunrise Assisted Living.
Catherine was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Youngstown, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gromofsky.
She was a 1943 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and had worked at the G.M. McKelvey Company for seven years and later worked in the admissions office of Youngstown State University for over 20 years, retiring in 1993.
She was a longtime member of St. Nicholas Church, its Altar and Rosary Society and the Helena Road Card Club.
Her husband, Gerald W. Brumert, whom she married May 3, 1947, died Jan. 11, 2006.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Robert Hardie of Boardman; two sons, Gerry Mary Brumert of Poland and David Bridgette Brumert of Struthers; three sisters, Margarete O'Masta of Austintown, Agnes Kachurek of Austintown and Dorothy Blasko of Struthers; seven grandchildren, Theresa Brumert Boano, Bryan Brumert, Jennifer Brumert, Kelly Hardie Vick, Katie Hardie, Jason Brumert and Nicole Brumert; and five great-grandchildren, Bobby, Rachael and Ryan Boano, Marco Vick and Karma Brumert Shiflett.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Gromofsky; and two sisters, Louise Foreman and Ann Matus.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Southern Care Hospice in Catherine's memory.
