YOUNGSTOWN - Catherine Ann Mahoney Guerriero, 90, passed away at Hospice of the Valley - Hospice House on Sunday evening, January 5, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Catherine was born on October 29, 1934, in Youngstown, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Alice Cregan Mahoney.
Catherine graduated from Ursuline High School in 1952, forming many lifelong friendships. She then worked as a secretary at Hutch Manufacturing. She met the love of her life, Stephen A. Guerriero. They married on June 22, 1963, and enjoyed 37 years of happy marriage until Stephen’s passing in January 2001.
Catherine worked from home, where she raised five children. She loved spending time with her family and entertaining friends and relatives. With the help of her husband, Stephen, and her many sisters-in-law, Catherine learned to cook amazing Italian cuisine. She hosted numerous bridge clubs with her dear high school friends. She made many trips to visit her children in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, and Cleveland and spent many summer vacations with them on Cape Cod.
She led a very happy and fulfilling life. She firmly believed in God's guidance. She was a faithful and devout Catholic who was always willing to help relatives or friends in need.
She was an avid sports fan and was a big Cleveland Guardians and Notre Dame fan. She enjoyed attending Cleveland Indians games but treasured attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and extracurricular activities the most.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Susan (Michael) Carney of Poland; her sons, Stephen of Huntington Beach, CA, James of Chicago, IL, Robert (Vina) of Boston, MA, and Thomas of Boardman; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Catherine was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter and James Mahoney; and sisters, Elaine Morton, Jane Mahoney, and Mary Hurley.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, January 9, 2024, from 4:00. to 6:00 p.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr Centre Dr., Canfield, Ohio 44406.
Prayers will begin at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2024, at the funeral home, followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Christine Church, 3165 South Schenley Ave, Youngstown, Ohio 44511.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts in Catherine’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 9803 Sharrott Rd, Youngstown, Ohio 44514.
