YOUNGSTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church in Youngstown for Mrs. Catherine J. Klingensmith, 68, who died Saturday morning at her home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
Cathy was born Aug. 14, 1950, in Youngstown, a daughter of Kenneth and Mary (Leidy) McMahon.
She was a 1968 graduate of Ursuline High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Youngstown State University. Cathy had taught at St. Brendan’s, St. Joseph’s, Ursuline Preschool and had just retired from St. Christine’s. She was a member of St. Christine’s and had been a member of St. Brendan’s where she was a lector, Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Folk Choir.
Cathy was a loving spouse, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and teacher. Cathy had a kind soul, was selfless, and worried more about others than herself. Her smile was contagious and her ears listened without judgement. Besides her family, she loved being a teacher and loved her other “kids,” her students.
Cathy married her husband, Dan on July 7, 1973, and they had three children, Kelly (Chris) Kutsko of Avon, Sara (Daniel) Ford of Poland and Dan (Susan) Klingensmith of Chandler, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Logan and Lily Kutsko, Noah and Olivia Klingensmith and Sabrina and Adelaide Ford.
She leaves five sisters, Mary Jo Schwartz of Orlando, Fla., Maureen (Ray) Criswell of Houston, Grace (Chuck) Johnson of Youngstown, Patricia (Tim) Cearfoss of Youngstown and Denise Latsko of Poland; two brothers, Ken (Beverly) McMahon of Poland and James (Susan) McMahon of Powell; brother-in-law Mark (Kay) Julian of Green; and cousins Julie (Harold) Carroll of Youngstown, Charles Nagel of Youngstown and Loretta Nagel of Struthers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Susan Julian; two brothers-in-law, Paul Schwartz and Rodney Latsko; and her cousin, Jack Nagel.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Christine’s School in Cathy’s memory.
