ZANESVILLE - Prayers will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and a Mass of Christine Burial at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown for Mrs. Catherine Irene Cronk McGinnis, 90, who died in the early morning of Sept. 24, 2011, who joined her late husband, James E. McGinnis, the one man she loved. They were married for more than 67 years and had six children together.
Katie cherished her children, Barbara Shelby Cash of Poland, Patricia Richard Milheim of Zanesville, James McGinnis of Villa Marie, Pa., John McGinnis of Austintown and Robert Connie McGinnis of New Wilmington, Pa.
Katie was an active grandmother to 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Katie leaves behind two sisters, Peggy Patrone and Shirley Cronk, both of Youngstown; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Cronk and Mrs. Carol Cronk, both of Youngstown and was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Kathleen McGinnis; three sisters; and four brothers.
She greatly loved all of her family, including many nieces and nephews and in-laws.
Born on July 6, 1921, in Cleveland, to Ethel and Robert Cronk, Katie was raised on the east side of Youngstown and then settled in Austintown. For the last three years of her life, Katie resided with her daughter in Zanesville.
Katie was a delightfully eclectic 90-year-young woman with countless friends, leaving many smiles in her path. Katie had special interests in painting, singing and passing on her vast and colorful knowledge of nostalgic songs, jokes and sayings leaving a lasting impression on all she met.
She will be missed by all that knew her and will be forever remembered and loved.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
