Charles Adkins

CANFIELD - Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Charles D Adkins, 73, who passed away early Sunday morning at his home.

Charles was born March 21, 1937, in Wayne County, W.Va., the son of Charley and Theora Gilkerson Adkins.

Charles served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He retired from GM as a die setter. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Mahoning County Coon Hunters Association and the Masonic Lodge. He received the Golden Music Award for Blue Grass Music from the House of Delegates in West Virginia. He currently has an album in the Smithsonian Institute.

His wife the former Judith A Rutherford, whom he married June 29, 1968 passed away April 9, 1995.

He leaves a son, Richard Sabrina Hodges of West Virginia; a stepson, Danny Lane of West Virginia; five sisters, Leola Mills of West Virginia, Mazel Ross and Nellie Adkins, both of Waverly, Melita Adkins Wooten and Velora Frasher, both of West Virginia; two brothers, Wetzel Wanda Adkins of Kentucky and Lowell Joyce Adkins of West Virginia; two grandchildren; and five step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a stepson, Marty Lane; three sisters, Delsie, Juanita and Polly Ann; and his loving companion, Jackie Willison.

Charles' family would like to thank his special friends, Debbie, Tammy, Don and Sue and many other dear friends for all of their care.

Family and friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
