Charles Jewell

BOARDMAN - Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church for Charles W. Jewell, 84, who passed away Monday evening at Omni Manor Nursing Home.

Charles was born April 24, 1931, in Franklin, Pa., a son of the late Morris W. and Hazel V. (Johnston) Jewell. Years later, Charles had the opportunity to meet his biological family.

Charles was a 1948 graduate of Hubbard High School. He graduated from Youngstown State University in 1958, and then received his Master's Degree in 1980, from Westminster College. Charles served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. He retired after 30 years of teaching in the Youngstown City School System.

Charles was president of the Youngstown Education Association from 1973 to 1980. He was a member of the YEA, NEOEA, OEA and NEA. He served as a member of the executive committee of OEA and NEOEA for eight years. He was elected as a trustee to the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio in 1985, and served 11 years until retirement.

"Chuck" will be lovingly missed by his six children, Charles R. (Kim) Jewell of San Antonio, Atty. Donna (Robert) McCollum of Youngstown, Barbara (Stephen deBruyn) Jewell of New York City, Patricia (Curtis Hight) Jewell of Akron, Laura (Christopher) Castellano of Boardman, and Linda (Paul) Pavlich of Niles; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra (Richard) Baxter of Florida; a niece; a nephew; and his stepsons, William J. Elicson, John Elicson, G. Thomas Elicson, and Michael Elicson and their families.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Joyce Ferguson Jewell; his second wife, Geraldine Elicson-Jewell; and his granddaughter, Erin McCollum.

Family and friends may pay their respects Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and Friday from 9 to 9:45 a.m at the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, material tributes may take the form of donations to Omni Manor Activity Department, 3245 Vestal Road, Youngstown, OH 44509, or LIFEBANC, 4775 Richmond Road, Cleveland, OH 44128.

The Jewell family would like to give a special thanks to the entire staff at Omni Manor for all of their care and kindness over the past year.
