POLAND - Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, for Charles "Charlie" F. Johnson, 85, who died early Monday morning at home.
Charlie was born June 21, 1931, in Commodore, Pa., the son of Charles A. and Elizabeth (Brown) Johnson.
He was a graduate of Green Township High School and was a veteran who served his county in the U.S. Air Force. Charlie worked as a fitter for William B. Pollock, later GATX, for 25 years until retiring.
He was a member of the Bethel Friends Church and the United Steel Workers Union, where he held office for several years.
Charlie coached baseball for many years for the Poland Community Baseball Association.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna "Joan" (Allison) Johnson, whom he married Feb. 2, 1957; his son, Peter (Laure) Johnson of Poland; daughter-in-law Brenda Johnson of New Middletown; and niece Becky Branch.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; son Chuck A. Johnson; and sisters Gladys Branch, Alice Roof, and Margaret Alschbach.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Bethel Friends Church, 2771 Spitler Road, Poland, OH 44514.
