CHARLES E. KORCHNAK
POLAND - Charles E. Korchnak, 93, died Friday morning at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Prayers will begin Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Church.
Charles was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Struthers, the son of Gali and Susanna Biroschak Korchnak. The Korchnak family moved to a farm in Poland, where Charles and his siblings helped their father and mother with the day to day operations of the farm.
Charles had attended Poland schools and worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 13 years until its closing. He then began his career in construction with the Poling & Bacon Company, where he had worked for over 30 years until his retirement.
Charles was a member of the Holy Family Church and a former member of the Poland Knights of Columbus Council. He was also a member of SNPJ, where he enjoyed visiting and polka dancing.
Charles had always been very social and is remembered as always being there to help family and friends. Most recently he had remained devoted to his bride of 65 years until his death, visiting her three times a day at Ivy Woods Manor to feed her meals.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Bakos, whom he married Oct. 18, 1947; two daughters, Sandy Stanislav and husband Kirk Snively of Canfield and Bonnie Goricki Doug Warrick of Struthers; three grandchildren, Kristyn and Andrew Stanislav of Canfield and Robert Goricki of Lakewood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Celia Brayer, Mary Backus and Anna Korchnak; and three brothers, Steve, John and Joe Korchnak.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, where the Knights of Columbus will hold a vigil service at 6:45 p.m.
The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff and employees of Glenellen Assisted Living, where Charles was a resident for the past three and a half years.
They would also like to thank Hampton Woods skilled nursing center for their care of Charles during his recent stay at their facility.
