AUSTINTOWN - Charles Ervin "Chuck" Myers, born May 4, 1920, in Warren, to Ervin and Glenna M. Jones Myers, died at his home, Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the age of 92, surrounded by his family.

Charles married Dorothy Snyder on May 12, 1942, in Camp Wolters, Texas.

He is survived by his sons, Curtis Myers of Hubbard and James Monica Myers of North Canton; daughters Patricia Myers of Youngstown and Canton, Kathleen Ralph Chenevey of Canal Fulton, Mary Alice Robert Martin of Youngstown and Carol George Malinich of Goodyear Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Charles was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy; son Charles Michael; daughter-in-law Dorothy Myers; granddaughter Shawna Myers; great-grandson Hezakiah Holliday; as well as his two siblings, Helen Buck Gintert and Catherine Henry Bell.

Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army upon completion of his education from Mineral Ridge Technical School and was deployed to Europe during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was captured by German forces and held as a Prisoner of War for 108 days, or as he would say "I was a guest of the Germans." During this time he suffered frostbite and severe dehydration. Upon liberation and the end of the war, Charles returned to Youngstown and began working at Hynes Steel Roll Form Products in 1949, retiring in 1982.

During retirement he was a very active volunteer for the Red Cross, driving their dialysis van, before becoming a volunteer with Dorothy at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, which they continued doing together for 25 years.

Charles was a long time member of the Wickliffe Christian Church in Youngstown. He was also an active member of the Youngstown Model Railroad Association and The Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association, which oversees the train engine at the Canfield Fair each year. In addition, he was Post Commander of the Steel Valley Chapter 13, American Ex-POW Association.

Funeral services will be held at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave., on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 11 a.m.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery following Thursday's service.
