BOARDMAN - Services will be Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Youngstown for Charles C. Rudibaugh Jr., 93, who died Monday evening at the Hospice House.
Charles was born July 8, 1921, in Youngstown, the son of Charles C. and Mary Agnes (Ruff) Rudibaugh.
He was a graduate of The Rayen School and Grove City College, and attended The Ohio State University for one year, completing his insurance education. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and at the end of the war, he traveled extensively all over Europe playing the trumpet in 131 shows of the G.I. version of "Carmen." Mr. Rudibaugh had a long career in the insurance industry and was recently associated with the Paige & Byrnes Insurance Agency.
He was a long-time member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, had been the secretary of its Men's Club, a member and former secretary of its service club bowling league and a member of its Mar-Sing class. He was a past president of the downtown Kiwanis club, having over 56 years of perfect attendance. Charles was also a past president of the Mahoning County Agents Association and had served as secretary of the Mahoning-Shenango Valley CPCU. Mr. Rudibaugh also served as the secretary of MASCO from 1983 to 1990, served as president of the Safety Council of Northeastern Ohio and was the longtime president of The Rayen School board of trustees, beginning his tenure in 1971.
His wife, the former Helen E. Barkhurst, whom he married Oct. 18, 1947, died Sept. 1, 2011.
He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Macomber of Boardman and Marnie (Richard) Aaron of Rapid City, S.D.; a son, Scott C. (Kathy) Rudibaugh of Hemet, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Rudibaugh.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Charles's family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations, in care of the funeral home, for a memorial in his memory.
