Charles R. ³Jeepers² Stevens, 85
BOARDMAN - There will be services at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at the
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, and at 10 a.m. at St. Charles
Church for Charles R. ³Jeepers² Stevens, 85, who died Saturday morning at
his home.
Mr. Stevens was born July 18, 1922 in the Smokey Hollow district of
Youngstown. He was the youngest of nine children born to Vincent and
Angelica Ditata Stevens.
After nearly 30 years, he retired in 1982 as an engineer for the Youngstown
Fire Dept. He had also been employed by General Fireproofing and worked
part-time as a bus driver for Youngstown city schools.
He was elected to the Ursuline High School Hall of Fame for having earned a
place on the All-State Ohio basketball team in 1942.
Mr. Stevens served three years in the European Theatre as a medical-surgical
technician with the 53rd Field Hospital during WWII. He received five Bronze
Stars.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne LaBate Stevens; five children,
Christine Keller Rohde of Boardman, Richard Barbara Stevens of Poland,
Marilyn Thomas Sims of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Charles Diane Stevens of
Boardman, and John Mary Ann Stevens of Reynoldsburg; 12 grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Orlando, Guy, Fred, and Anthony
³Tucky,² and four sisters, Mrs. Elaine ³Nellie² Spagnola, Mrs. Mary
Bonamase, Mrs. Antoinette Torisk, and Mrs. Angeline Mele.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
