Chester Fickes

BOARDMAN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church for Chester "Chet" Fickes, 82, who passed away Nov. 3, 2013, due to complications from surgery.
A son of the late Chester and Eileen (McKimm) Fickes Sr., he was born May 19, 1931, in Canton.
A graduate of Central Catholic in Canton in 1949, he went to Ohio State and received a degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
After serving with the U.S. Army in Okinawa during the Korean conflict, he was hired by the U.S. Steel, and worked as a metallurgist until his retirement in 1982.
Chet loved fishing during younger years, but his favorite was cribbage with his friends at the Mahoning Valley Cribbage Club.
Also, during football season, Saturday was a special day to watch his beloved Buckeyes with his boys.
Chet leaves his wife, the former Patricia Dunn, whom he married Aug. 2, 1958, at St. Patrick Church; two daughters, Patty Poorman of Boardman and Mary Fickes of Canton; two sons, Robert Fickes of Struthers and Jim (Jean) Fickes of Illinois; one grandson and four granddaughters, Nicole and Mary Poorman of Boardman, and Michael, Kelly and Kristen Fickes of Illinois; a great-grandson, Anthony Bruno; and a brother, Richard (Carrie) Fickes of Canton.
Chet was also preceded in death by an infant daughter.
